The Pillar Of Myth Still Stands

Previously ambidextrous-space-samurai

I’ve been wanting to change my username for a long time, but of course that was right after I started gaining a bit of a community of friends here, lol, so i was too afraid to lose my identity hahaha. Decided fuck it we ball. Current username may or may not be permanent, trying out some options 💚💚💚

Do you write music with the view of being politically active and delivering a message or does it just happen and the rest follows?

#this is a perspective I’ve only seen from people who truly think broadly and sympathetically about life#like he’s literally right I’m sorry and people who aren’t white or cis or straight learn so so SO early that your existence is political#not inherently but because white cishet men have crafted society in a way it’s impossible for it not to be#and ignoring that isn’t going to make you ascend above it god I’m so tired of having to explain that to people#I’m tired of people’s experiences in both places of privilege and place of oppression being used to scapegoat what we all can see#like look at his example!#‘going out for a dance on a Saturday night’ means something different if you’re poor if you’re gay if you’re a racial minority#’walking into a shop’ who owns it how often do you go is it a big box store or a small owned business is it walkable#there’s pOLitiCs in all of that! in ever aspect of your life!#ESPECIALLY if you take your life experiences and turn them into art of any form (via @twentyfour-mp3)

Friendly reminder that Hozier’s first music video, in 2013, involved him literally taking his life savings and using it to make a protest video about anti-gay actions in Chechnya. This was not a popular position at the time, to the point that damn near every interviewer asked “so, are you gay?” because they literally could not figure out why he cared so much.

Incidentally, after the first few times of saying “no, I’m straight but it’s important,” he started saying “you can think that if you want.” ALSO not a popular position at the time. Adam Lambert’s entire career had been derailed only four years before because he dared to be openly gay and sexual about it.

He literally came out swinging like Muhammad Ali and has not stopped. And he finds it odd that people find it odd! Like he was asked if he was aware of his “lesbian cult following” and seemed genuinely puzzled why he has a lesbian cult following (and, later, just a massive queer following in general) and it’s like. Honey. You loved us first. You loved us more and harder than most people were willing to. When it was unpopular to even whisper about how maybe queer people shouldn’t be seen as inhuman actually, you grabbed a megaphone and screamed. You risked not just losing a career, but never having one at all, to stand by us. You loved us. We’re just loving you back.

the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible

because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person

from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing
and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating

it’s fucked up.

What is the most important step a man can take?

The next.

I think part of the pushback about this is the idea that, to “redeem” bad people, their victims must first forgive them for unforgivable acts.

This is false. No one is obligated to forgive you. You can learn from your mistakes and become the best, kindest person on earth, and the people you’ve hurt still won’t forgive you, and you’ll have to accept that. And that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to grow. Because we aren’t just “pure” or “sinful”, we’re complex.

I love the x-men so much because that’s just what leftist infighting is like! that’s literally all it is! xavier is a sellout and they all hate him but he’s the only one with any money. everyone complains about “they keep switching sides and dating each other it’s so fucking confusing” like my dudes have you never been a part of any socialist organisation, ever. then people will go “magneto is so strong how has he not killed a bunch of teenagers” HE DOESN’T WANT TO KILL THEM! this started in a goddam basement over coffee he does not want to hurt them he just wants them to shut up and listen and will fling cars to do so

Magneto one drink in: I love Charles but hes such a kiss ass we don’t need to be FRIENDS we just need mutual aid communities and to be left alone

Professor X one drink in: what the fuck is his self sustaining mutant community going to do for all the mutants born to human parents, which is MOST OF THEM, he’s so gay he’s forgotten how babies are made and I want to kiss his stupid face

If there was a way to run SUPER MEGA AD BLOCKER on this website I fucking would

“Please oh please open up your computer to a porn virus! If you don’t you’re evil!”

Freeloader Comin’ through!

We didn’t start this war internet users have with ads - We might have moaned about banner ads, but it was only when they started making noises when we might be listening to music or a podcast or whatever, causing two sound sorces at once, that we started trying to block ads universally rather than just a specific type of ad (pop ups).

And since then ads have gotten worse - Actual malware rather than merely breaking one of the fundamental sins of web design - though shalt not autoplay anything with sound. And the more aggressive a website is with ‘please turn off adblock’ the less I trust it to bother to vet ads and advertisers to make sure they’re not installing malware.

Not to mention that the idea that avoiding ads is “freeloading” is hilariously backward. Advertisement is a transaction between the platform and the advertiser, the user has no obligation to provide the views/clicks the platform has promised. Using an adblocker isn’t freeloading in the same way that leaving the room to get a snack during a commercial break isn’t cheating the tv network.

Ok y’all, I work as a web developer and I’m here to tell you that you are 100% right and that it’s shit. SO I’m going to tell you how to get around websites that block you from using their website if you’re using an adblocker.

Every website uses a language called JavaScript; long story short it’s a website language that allows developers to do the crazy shit you see on websites. Now the easiest thing to do is to disable JavaScript to stop them from knowing you have an adblocker:

image

Oh no! I’m blocked from viewing the website. It would be a terrible shame if I were able to right click and select the “inspect” feature

image

Click the three dots in the top right and open the “Settings” Menu

image

And then scrolled down to “Debugger” and checked the “Disable Javascript Option”

image

And then just refreshed the page

We need more scary infinite variants of manmade environments like the Infinite IKEA or the Backrooms.

May I suggest, The Lot:

image
image

I’m sorry to disappoint you but this is a real parking lot. I didn’t edit it.

Check out the lot-to-building ratio in any large American sports stadium

image

Some lots are so big they have bus services specifially inside it. The lots are broken into sections and buses go around to their sections at a set amount of times before the start of something and drive people to the main building.

The societies of lost people inside The Lot would probably operate something like that to locate and pick up new arrivals and bring them over to one of the major settlements.

image

In the Infinite Ikea or Backrooms you can convince yourself there’s gonna be a door round the next corner or behind that wall.

But despite it being completely open, there is no hope of escape from The Lot. Whereever you look it’s just more cars from horizon to horizon.

Sheesh, man, that’s

a lot

Any artists interested in illustrating some The Lot concept art? Things like

  • A new arrival realizing a they’re lost
  • Scavengers systematically going through cars for supplies
  • A small farming community that dug up the asphalt to plant crops
  • A veteran traveler coming across two sun-bleached skeletons wearing old-timey clothes next to some old cars, implying they’ve been there for more than a century

I Made a House of Houselessness

colleendoran:

apoemaday:

by Rose O'Neill

I made a house of houselessness,
A garden of your going:
And seven trees of seven wounds
You gave me, all unknowing:
I made a feast of golden grief
That you so lordly left me,
I made a bed of all the smiles
Whereof your lip bereft me:
I made a sun of your delay,
Your daily loss, his setting:
I made a wall of all your words
And a lock of your forgetting.

Rose O'Neill is not only one of the world’s first (and most successful) professional women cartoonists, she was a painter, a sculptor who studied with Rodin, a novelist, a poet, a patron of the arts who supported many other creators, the creator of the most successful licensing franchise in history prior to Mickey Mouse, O'Neill single-handedly paid for smallpox vaccinations for her community after her beloved brother died of the disease while on his way to his first year at university.

I cannot recommend her work enough, and this is one of my favorite poems.

Some 75 years after her death, she was inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame.
